Hello there, everyone! Things have been a little quiet here at Miku;Zen for the past two weeks — still trying to adjust to work life. Having a job does sap the energy and time out of me. ^^;;

I'm sure there's lots going on in the world of Vocaloids, but if there's one thing that won't change, it's that they continue provide the opportunity to deliver more delicious music to the world. Here is one such attempt: a small little single from miumiu and Taishi, called Daydream Flight. And if you can't already tell from the cover art — this single features Aoki Lapis.

Hit the jump to give your ears a treat!

New producers, miumiu and Taishi?

A pretty new producer, there is much to be known about miumiu. Gathering from his Nico Mylist, he has made a handful of songs with Miku, though none of his videos break past 2,500 views — at least, not until he got the chance to create a demo song for Aoki Lapis. And that song is none other than this single itself!

While miumiu is quite new and fresh, Taishi has been around for a longer time, albeit he wasn't that active. In his Mylist, you can see videos that date back as far as August 2009, yet the amount of videos aren't as many as some of the other active Vocaloid producers out there. Perhaps Taishi works on other music apart from Vocaloids?

Still, some of you might know Taishi for being the producer who worked together with Sutdio Deen to create Downloader, where Taishi made the music while Studio Deen made the PV. Taishi is also behind one of IA's prototype demo songs, Falling Apart, where many Nico viewers called him a "promising newbie." Considering the wicked beats he has in his songs, I can see why people have high expectations of him.

Okay... But Aoki Lapis?

Ah, I realized that among the Vocaloid3 that I have followed up on, Aoki Lapis is one of the (many) girls I've left out! So some of you might be a little unfamiliar with her.

To briefly recap, she is a Vocaloid3 resulting from the i-style Project, which is a collaborative Vocaloid3 project between Surfer's Paradise and Studio Deen. Lapis is designed by an illustrator named Carnelian, and she is actually tiny. Look at this video to see how small Lapis is suppose to be.

Lapis's voice provider is a high-school girl named Eguchi Nako, who was chosen through an online audition contest on NicoNico Douga.

Finally, Lapis is set to fully lend her voice to everyone on April 6th, 2012. Just about two months to go!

An Aoki Lapis preview

Daydream Flight is a single that is sold in Comiket 81. This is a single that contains prototype demo songs created for Aoki Lapis, similar to the IA/00 album. For those who keep track of new Vocaloid3 developments, you will probably be familiar with the first two tracks, as they were uploaded on Nico as public demo songs for our blue little Vocaloid.

What this single does bring, though, is a new track by Taishi called Think the Future. In my opinion, that song alone makes this single worth getting, although the other two tracks are pretty decent too. If you've taken a liking to Taishi's previous works, you will definitely have something to expect from this song!

For those who haven't heard of Aoki Lapis, this is your chance to give her voice a test run. Her voice is definitely usable, and something that I don't mind listening to.

Here are the embeds:

1. Daydream Flight
by miumiu

A pretty decent track to sample Lapis's voice, especially around the chorus where she drags out her voice more. The song itself is quite decent — a medium-paced song that has electronic, synthesized sounds that easily go together with the clear-sounding acoustic guitar before the chorus. A tamed electric guitar solo comes in for a little fun at the bridge. I feel it could do with a better way to end the song, but I think it's just me not liking songs that end with a fade off.

2. Little Wish
by miumiu

Little Wish is a little more upbeat compared to the previous track. You can kind of tell it's made by the same person — the style is sort of there, I feel. I favour the previous track more though, probably just my own preference.

3. Think the Future
by Taishi

Ah, Taishi's track! Truly a great electronic, techno song. Those are some really sweet beats, and you've got to love the dubstep that's also thrown in for good measure. Taishi definitely has no problems with his sounds, though Think the Future is a little shorter compared to some of his earlier works (Downloader is almost 8 minutes long, Falling Apart about 7 and a half minutes.)

I'm not too sure if I'd want to hear him use Lapis more often though; while Lapis sounds okay, if given the opportunity, I think I'd prefer to hear him using some of the other girls instead. Back to IA, maybe? Nonetheless, great to hear more music from Taishi.

Well, that's the end of the single! Three songs to help show off Lapis's potential. Being someone who favours deeper/mature voice, I end up favouring voices like IA or Yuzuki Yukari a little more, but I think in the hands of a good producer, any (or at least most) Vocaloid can sound great. Lapis seems to hover more towards the high-pitched side of the sound spectrum, and I'm curious to see how other producers would handle her voice.

As usual, you can get the album over at MikuDB.

What do you think? Perhaps you're digging Aoki Lapis's voice? Or maybe she's being overshadowed by some of the other Vocaloid3? The comments section are open. (:

I'll see you all next post!

Taishi has been around for a long time, and is a popular composer/arranger in the doujin scene. If you check vgmdb you can see a lot of his works with the circle XL Project, although seems to be doing his own thing now.

@K336: Thanks for that! Guess I was right that he was more involved somewhere outside the Vocaloid scene. Good to know that. (:
